The Richmond County School System will return to school on Wednesday, Oct. 16, due to the impact of Hurricane Helene.
A statement released by the school district explains that this will allow time for all of its schools to open with “power, water, internet, personnel, and clear bus routes.”
The district will not be observing its scheduled PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Day on Oct. 11.
Nutrition Services
RCSS Nutrition Services is working with local agencies to identify food distribution sites to serve the community while schools and offices are closed. More information on dates, times and locations will be available before Monday, Oct. 7.
Superintendent on lost instruction time
“This week, we focused on our families, homes, and neighbors in need in the wake of the hurricane that impacted every community member,” said Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw in a statement.
He noted that many are concerned about lost instruction time for students, but advised RCSS families to spend time taking care of themselves.
“Right now, we ask that you focus on the safety of your families, and rest assured that we are considering several options that prioritize a smooth transition back into the classroom.”
Additional updates from RCSS will be provided though Infinite Campus Parent Portal, RCSS Social Media Profiles and the school district’s website.
