Richmond County traffic accident claims one life, injures another

A fatal traffic accident early Wednesday morning in the Hephzibah area has left one person dead and another critically injured.

At approximately 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 4500 block of Old Waynesboro Road following reports of a single-vehicle crash. Deputies discovered that a southbound vehicle had veered off the roadway and collided with an unknown object.

Cody Lee Arrington, 31, was ejected from the vehicle after a single motor vehicle crash.  He was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday.  An autopsy has been scheduled. 

Another person in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The accident occurred on Old Waynesboro Road.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
