Rick’s Paint and Body Repair Shop is looking to open a location in Richmond County, according to recent submission to the Augusta planning department.
Beman Group Real Estate, on behalf of the auto shop’s president Tyler Smith, sent Planning and Zoning a letter in early August, petitioning for a special exception at 3831 Wrightsboro Road, to establish a body repair shop there for drivable damage, under the name Rick’s Paint and Body.
The roughly two-acre parcel, which sits across the street from Sue Reynolds Elementary School, holds a 12,000 square foot building with both warehouse and office space. It is zoned General Business (B-2), which allows for auto body and fender repair via a special exception.
The 48-year-old CSRA staple—which offers services from collision repair to glass replacement to car towing—is located at 251 Bobby Jones Expressway, which is in Martinez, and expanded its space there in 2018. It has had locations on the Richmond County side before, such as on Mike Padgett Highway—currently the location of Chancey’s Wrecker Service.
Smith and his wife Katie bought the business from Katie’s father Rusty Campbell, who acquired it from Rick Huff in 1990.
The Augusta Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the special exception request during its meeting on Nov. 4.
