Roach infestation discovered in one restaurant in this week’s health inspections

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant received a failing score in their recent health inspection from June 17-20.

Toast the Event Bar, 1135 Broad St., Augusta received a failing score of 55. Inspector’s comments included: “observed live roaches throughout kitchen” and “observed several items (raw poultry, raw beef, ready-to-eat foods) stored out of order inside freezer and ice bath.”

Other inspector’s comments included: “observed no CFSM on site,” “observed employee ‘wash’ hands with no soap,” “observed no soap or paper towels at handwashing sink,” “observed dishes stored in handwashing sink,” “observed build-up inside microwave,” “observed restricted use pesticide (Raid) stored with chemicals,” “observed items stored outside original packaging with no labels,” “observed packs of chicken sitting in sink to thaw with no proper method being used,” “observed scoops stored inside items with handle touching,” and “observed build-up on floor and wall behind grill.”

Inspector’s comments: “observed beef stored uncovered in RIC,” “observed container labeled chuleta with a 6/13/24 discard-by date in RIC,” “observed pork improperly thawing in container,” “observed employee cell phones as well as toothbrush and toothpaste stored amongst clean dishware,” “observed scoops stored inside sugar and other seasoning,” “observed wet nesting of stacked pans,” and “observed excessive fly presence throughout kitchen.”

Inspections by the Georgia Public Health Department are used to make sure residents and visitors are safe. These were the health inspections performed between June 17-20.
