Roaches and bacteria found in kitchens during health inspections

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Sept. 29–Oct. 3.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 73 earned by Jerk City Truck, located at 2147 Eastside Court, in Augusta.

During the inspection, the inspector noticed unlabeled foods, which resulted in a total of nine points deducted.

“Observed no dates on any food stored in cooler or freezer,” the report stated. “Date and label all items in storage.”

The inspector also reported finding employee food stored with ready to eat food, resulting in three points docked from the health score. Keep personal food separated from customer food at all times..”

Another three points were deducted from the health score for the inspector witnessing a roach wandering.

“Observed roach wandering around base of operations,” the report stated.

After losing another point for not having the previous health inspection score posted, the inspector deducted another two points for seeing no food permit posted and for a lack of handwashing signage posted.

“Observed no permit posted,” the report stated. “Observed no handwashing signage posted.”

The second lowest score of the week was an 80 given to a Subway’s, located at 724 Laney Walker Boulevard, in Augusta.

The inspector deducted four points for noticing food improperly stored.

“Observed ham stored on top of cardboard box without covering/protection in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Store food in a way to protect it from contamination.”

During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for finding a bacteria on a kitchen appliances.

“Observed black buildup on ice spout and drink spill rack in lobby,” the report stated. “Clean. Increase cleaning frequency.”

The inspector deducted another nine points for finding food stored in the wrong temperature..

“Observed several [temperature control safety] foods (lettuce, tuna, cheese, tomatoes, and ham) cold held above 41 degrees Fahrenheit in coolers,” the report stated. “Maintain cold holding temperatures at 41 degrees Fahrenheit and below.”

The inspector also deducted another nine points for seeing even more food improperly stored.

“Observed meatballs hot held below 135 degrees Fahrenheit,” the report stated. “Maintain hot-holding temperatures above 135 degrees Fahrenheit.”

Following the Subway’s inspection, the third lowest score of the week was another 80 given to a Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 120 Robert C Daniel Parkway, in Augusta.

The inspector deducted four points for noticing bacterial build up on kitchen appliances.

“Observed black buildup around multiple drink dispensers throughout the facility,” the report stated. 

During the inspection, the inspector deducted nine points for finding food improperly stored.

“Observed cold-held food items (mac & cheese-46F, chicken-43F, & cheese-50F) with temperatures above 41F.,” the report stated. “Place personal items in a designated area.”

Another three points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the inspector finding food items stored on the ground.

“Observed food tater tots and onion rings stored on the floor inside the [walk in freezer or fridge],” the report stated. “Store all food items at least 6″ off of the floor.”
