Rocky Creek Charter Academy (RCCA), a new area school replicating Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics (GSIC), has opened its doors this 2024-25 academic year in a temporary location as it faces delays on the completion of its permanent residence.
The school will initially serve kindergarten through 4th-grade students, but plans to accommodate for up to 12th grade, adding one new grade level each year after its completion.
Construction updates
Last year Rocky Creek acquired property at the former site of the Sears Call Center on Jennings Street, where the school will be permanently housed.
”We are working to have that building remodeled in time for next school year,” said Jody Boulineau, superintendent of both GSIC and RCCA in written correspondence with the Augusta Press.
Temporary Location
In the meantime, the school is temporarily leasing a facility that was once part of Hillcrest Baptist School to serve as its makeshift locale. Hillcrest Baptist School is no longer in operation, having closed “as a result of the pandemic,” per Boulineau.
“Due to our strong convictions regarding school choice and the commitments we had made to many families, we did not want to postpone opening for another year,” said Boulineau.
Boulineau said that Rocky Creek is meant to embody the same academic criterion of its mother school, GSIC.
“RCCA is under the direction and supervision of the GSIC governing board and is a continuation of GSIC’s standards of excellence,” said Boulineau.
She added that despite facing some obstacles, they are excited to be able to offer another school option for families in the CSRA.
