As temperatures begin to climb, The Salvation Army of Augusta has teamed up with local retailer Escape Outdoors to launch a donation drive to help community members stay cool and hydrated during the summer heat.

The month-long drive, running throughout May, seeks donations of boxed fans and bottled water for individuals who may lack access to air conditioning or clean drinking water.

The supplies will support clients of The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope shelter and other vulnerable residents across the area, according to a press release from The Salvation Army of Augusta.

“Every summer, we see how dangerous high heat can be — especially for those living without shelter,” said Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Augusta Major Jonathan Raymer. “With the community’s support, this drive will allow us to provide critical relief during the hottest months of the year.”

Donations can be dropped off at multiple locations:

  • Escape Outdoors – 377 Furys Ferry Road, Martinez, GA 30907
  • Escape Outdoors – 387 Highland Ave, Augusta, GA 30909
  • Any Salvation Army location, including the Center of Hope, the Kroc Center, and local Family Stores

Supporters can also contribute online through The Salvation Army’s Amazon Wishlist: bit.ly/cohwishlist

Hannah Bassali, owner of Escape Outdoors and a member of The Salvation Army’s Advisory Board, emphasized the personal importance of the campaign.

“When the heat becomes unbearable, something as simple as a fan or bottled water can make all the difference,” Bassali said. “We’re proud to be part of this effort to care for our neighbors.”
