The Salvation Army of Augusta kicks off the holiday season with its Annual Christmas Kickoff Breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 a.m. at the Kroc Center of Augusta.
Held at 1833 Broad St., this special event will mark the official start of both the Angel Tree program and the Red Kettle Campaign, two holiday traditions that aim to bring hope and joy to local families in need, according to a press release from The Salvation Army of Augusta.
“The Angel Tree program allows our community to directly brighten the lives of local families who might otherwise struggle to afford Christmas gifts,” said Major Amanda Raymer, area commander for The Salvation Army in Augusta.
This year’s Angel Tree program aims to provide toys and clothing to over 1,000 children in the Augusta area, ensuring they experience the joy of receiving gifts on Christmas morning.
“Each paper angel represents a real child who could use a little extra joy this holiday season,” said Raymer. “Community members and businesses play a crucial role in making Christmas dreams come true.”
In tandem with the Angel Tree program, The Salvation Army is launching its 2024 Red Kettle Campaign, which will run until Dec. 24.
This iconic campaign is a vital fundraising initiative that supports life-changing programs throughout the year, including food assistance, emergency shelter and disaster response.
“The Red Kettle campaign is a critical source of funding that allows us to meet the needs of our community, especially during times of crisis,” said Major Jonathan Raymer of The Salvation Army of Augusta. “The funds raised help ensure local families have the support they need all year long.”
As part of the Red Kettle campaign, kettles will be placed at major retailers, such as the Bass Pro Shop, Belk, Food Lion, Hobby Lobby, Kroger, Sam’s Club and Walmart locations across Augusta, Evans, Grovetown, Hephzibah, Martinez and North Augusta.
Community contributions will help sustain vital programs for individuals and families facing hardship year-round, according to a press release from The Salvation Army.
Those wanting to support the project can visit the Augusta Mall, The Kroc Center or The Salvation Army Family Store in Martinez to adopt an angel and fulfill a child’s holiday wish.
Locals can also support the initiative by becoming an Angel Tree volunteer or bell ringer by visiting salvationarmyaugusta.org and clicking “Volunteer” for more details.
