The Salvation Army of Augusta is teaming up with Southbound Smokehouse in North Augusta to host a monthlong food drive supporting the Center of Hope Soup Kitchen.
The Center of Hope serves an average of 140 meals each day, offering breakfast and dinner to shelter residents and nightly community dinners open to anyone in need.
To help meet that demand, the Salvation Army is asking for donations of shelf-stable items such as canned beans, vegetables, pasta, rice, and other non-perishables.
“Food insecurity continues to impact families across our community, and our Center of Hope is committed to ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry,” said Major Jonathan Raymer, area commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta. “This food drive is an opportunity for neighbors to come together and provide hope one meal at a time.”
Donations can be dropped off throughout September at Southbound Smokehouse (1009 Center St., North Augusta) or at any Salvation Army Augusta location, including the Center of Hope, the Kroc Center, and Family Stores.
Southbound Smokehouse owner Brian Brittingham said the restaurant is proud to be involved.
“We love this community, and partnering with The Salvation Army is a way we can give back to the neighbors who support us every day,” he said. “We invite everyone to stop by, bring a few items to donate, and be part of making a real difference for families in need.”
