Date: November 20, 2023

Extending a warm invitation to all for the holidays, the Salvation Army of Augusta will be hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 23, at 5:30 p.m.

Held at the Center of Hope, located at 1384 Greene St. in downtown Augusta, the community holiday dinner will open its doors to the public after serving all shelter clients to ensure those in need have a special Thanksgiving meal.

Known for serving others since the organization’s inception in 1865, the Salvation Army has helped over 30 million Americans receive assistance each year through an array of social services that focus on many needs, including: relief for disaster victims, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and more.

With food provided by local restaurant TBONZ, which regularly participates in community involvement, the Salvation Army event is for anyone who wishes to partake in the spirit of Thanksgiving with other Augustans.

“We are grateful for their support in helping us make this holiday special,” stated a press release from the Salvation Army of Augusta.

The organization is also looking for additional volunteers to play a crucial role in making the dinner a success. By encouraging groups or individuals to volunteer their time and talents at the Center of Hope on Thanksgiving or in the days leading up to the holiday, volunteer opportunities include serving meals, food preparation and decorating the dining hall for the occasion.

“We are grateful to TBONZ and all the volunteers that will help at the Center of Hope on Thanksgiving Day serving those experiencing homelessness,” said Major Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander for the Salvation Army of Augusta. “The ministry of dignity that happens with people stepping up and thinking of others, especially on a national holiday where we give thanks, it cannot be overstated the impact that makes on those in need.”

For those interested in volunteering, please contact the Salvation Army of Augusta Volunteer Coordinator, Nanette Hayes, at nanette.hayes@uss.salvationarmy.org

“Join us at the Center of Hope this Thanksgiving and help us spread warmth, joy and gratitude to our neighbors in need,” stated the press release.

Those unable to volunteer in person can also help by contributing monetary donations to support the Center of Hope at https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/augusta

“Your support will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve,” stated a press release from the Salvation Army of Augusta. “Just $5 can provide two meals at the Center of Hope, making a tangible impact on hunger relief in our community.”
