Ed Turner’s next performance with his band, Number 9, is especially for those who think of the band, Chicago, when they hear the title of the concert.
“Saturday in the Park” will be held May 29 at the Evans Towne Center park.

“We’re starting off with that song,” said Turner. “We’ll have two lead singers and five horns.”
He wants to open with that song because its lyrics and melody strike a certain mood.
“It’s a happy song,” he said.

“Beginnings” is another Chicago song scheduled for the concert, which will highlight music from the 1960s and 1970s. He sees the concert as a time machine of sorts, as a way to take the audience back to a place of happy memories.
“For them, it will take them back to school, to family, to people they love and have missed,” he said.
And for those familiar with the music, he expects they’ll sing along and know every word.

He said it should be a beautiful night under the stars after a recent full moon.
Ed Turner and Number 9 has been popular for years. The group recently emerged from the pandemic to play its first concert at the dedication of the Sharon Jones Amphitheater last month in North Augusta. The concert sold out in hours, he said.

Turner said it was gratifying to be able to play in honor of a woman he considered a friend.
The band typically plays a concert at the Imperial Theater each year, and it usually sells out, he said. Earlier this year, the band pulled a videotaped concert out of the vault and raised more than $4,500 for the historic theater.
Turner said he’s hopeful for a return to the Imperial in the fall.
Opening for Ed Turner and Number 9 will be King Cat and the Elders, a rockabilly band.
