At approximately 10:49 a.m., Augusta University issued an alert through text, email and phone call to all university personnel, including students, to warn about a “utilities failure” on the downtown Health Science Campus.
According to the statement, the power outage also affected the university’s hospital – although the severity and duration of the outage is currently unknown.
A public relations official from the university stated that at approximately 11:56 a.m., Georgia Power was on the scene to restore power, and university management of facilities was working to ensure backup generators were working properly.
At the time, the Georgia Power Outage map showed an outage in the medical district with an estimated restoration time of 1:45 p.m. As of 2:15 p.m., the map is not showing any outages at that location.
The university sent out an alert at 6:41 p.m. stating power had been restored on the campus.
The cause of the outage has not been announced.
