In its four-year history, the Savannah River Brewing Co., has become more than just a place where local craft beers are brewed. It’s a gathering place.
“We have a family-friendly environment. We’ve had a few people get angry that we allow dogs and children,” said Brian Ertter, sales manager. “We’re an adult establishment. We don’t cater to kids, but people can bring the whole family.”
This week, the brewery is celebrating its fourth anniversary with special events including a lobster-dog food truck beginning at 4 p.m. Friday and barbecue and beer on Saturday.

While those are just for this weekend, there are plenty of regularly-scheduled activities at the brewery.
Every Wednesday, it’s fitness on tap with Bodyweight and Brews at 6 p.m. followed by Muscles and Malts at 6:45. The brewery partners with Train and Flourish for the two different classes that are $16 each. Space is limited, and participants should reserve a spot.
At 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays, there’s beer yoga. Sundays bring the Urban Trail run club.
If exercise isn’t your thing, there are regular trivia events, cornhole and disc golf putting. There’s also been a Dungeons and Dragons event.
But at the heart of the company is locally-brewed beer. They offer several different types of brews. A few have names with nods to the local area. There’s the hazy Phinizy Swamp Thing and the Dynamite Brown Ale, which, according to its label, is “so good, so good.”

Ertter said some of the groups that regularly meet there are self-described nerds, so they understand the names of beers such as Flight of Brynhildr Belgian Dubbel. Brynhildr is a Valkyrie as well as the name of a Japanese science fiction manga series.
Small batches of specialty beers are often crafted. Wit is the Dill? is made with brine from locally-made Will’s Dills PG-13 artisan pickles. The Tangerine seltzer is a gluten-free alternative with a touch of tangerine, and the lemon-guava craft soda is non-alcoholic.
Savannah River Brewing Co., is open with limited capacity and is following recommended guidelines for social distancing and mask-wearing, Ertter said.
The hours of operation are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
