Savannah River Mission Completion has donated $5,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank to support families facing food insecurity in South Carolina and Georgia.

The liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site said the contribution will help Golden Harvest source and distribute nutritious food across the region, according to a press release from Savannah River Mission Completion.

The food bank works with 350 partner agencies and programs and depends on more than 17,000 volunteer hours each year.

SRMC Senior Vice President of Optimization & Integration Steve Howell presented the check to Golden Harvest.

“SRMC is honored to support numerous nonprofit organizations making meaningful impacts in the region such as Golden Harvest,” Howell said. “It is sobering to know that so many Americans go hungry every day, including our neighbors. SRMC is grateful for everything Golden Harvest is doing to help those in need.”

Golden Harvest Food Bank Director of Donor Engagement Melissa Osborne said the support comes at a critical time.

“In our area, one in six people struggle with hunger, and many are just one paycheck or medical crisis away from food insecurity,” Osborne said. “We are extremely grateful for SRMC’s partnership in helping us feed families who are struggling in the community.”

SRMC is the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, made up of parent company BWX Technologies, Inc., along with partners Amentum and Fluor.
