Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) recently donated $5,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank to provide healthy food for local families in need, and had employees serve meals in the Golden Harvest soup kitchen.
The soup kitchen, called The Master’s Table, was served by volunteers from SRMC’s Representation and Inclusion Working Group, along with SRMC Chief Administrative Officer Mark Barth.
SRMC is the Liquid Waste Contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS) and comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor.
From helping out, Barth said he and the other SRMC volunteers learned more about the local hunger issue that Golden Harvest is working to solve.
“Savannah River Mission Completion appreciates the opportunity to support Golden Harvest again this year,” Barth said. “I am pleased I could join SRMC’s Representation and Inclusion Working Group to serve a hot meal to those who need it.”
SRMC’s donation will assist Golden Harvest’s mission to eliminate hunger in surrounding communities.
“By 2030, Golden Harvest hopes to ensure access to enough nutritious food for people struggling with hunger and make meaningful progress toward ending hunger throughout its 25-county service territory in Georgia and South Carolina, where one in seven people experiences food insecurity,” according to a press release from SRS.
Golden Harvest Food Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Amy Breitmann said that having partners like SRMC helps their organization thrive.
“Because of companies like SRMC, Golden Harvest has been able to expand operations,” Breitmann said. “We were able to build a new Produce Rescue Center, located across the street from our main building in Augusta, that doubles our refrigerated space where we store fresh produce.”
Breitmann said Golden Harvest’s facility has additional space for volunteers to assist, like SRMC’s team that supported the company’s effort to give back to others.
The SRMC team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance, according to a press release from SRS.
