Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, has recently donated $5,000 to the University of South Carolina Aiken to assist veterans transitioning from the military to college and into the civilian workforce.
SRMC and USCA established an alliance that creates a potential employment pipeline through the University’s Office of Veteran and Military Student Success (VMSS) by providing an internship or employment for students.
According to a press release from USCA, the donation will be used to host SRMC and VMSS networking and career guidance sessions, advertising and the overall mission of the VMSS Center.
With the program having a proven track record, Allison Brinkley, SRMC talent acquisition projects and programs lead, said SRMC representatives are looking forward to helping students.
“SRMC and USCA want to generate more student interest in career opportunities with SRMC through VMSS,” Brinkley said. “Internships could not only lead to meaningful jobs at SRMC, but the students will also benefit from mentoring provided by world class professionals.”
USCA Student Academic Success Director Robert Murphy said USCA and SRMC will host future networking events to bring together veterans and military students and SRMC management to discuss potential internships.
“USCA has established itself as one of the top universities in the country for veteran and military students,” said Murphy, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “We have experienced this success because we have dedicated staff and community partners like SRMC that want what is best for our students, and we all win every time a student earns a full-time job through this collective effort.”
