Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is proud to announce the addition of over 70 students to its summer internship program, a key initiative aimed at developing the next generation of leaders in engineering, environmental science, and other critical fields.

Interns from colleges across the country, including Florida State University, Yale, Clemson, Georgia Tech and the University of South Carolina, are joining SRMC to contribute to vital projects at the Savannah River Site (SRS).

Their work will focus on advancing SRMC’s mission to treat millions of gallons of Cold War-era radioactive waste stored in SRS tanks, according to a press release from SRMC.

“We strive to provide a world-class internship experience that allows students to learn, contribute, and grow,” said SRMC President and Program Manager, Tom Burns. “These students have traveled from near and far to be a part of our mission, and we’re excited to have them on board as they take on meaningful projects that will help drive progress in cleanup efforts.”

Representing a diverse range of disciplines, from engineering and environmental science to communications and business, the students will gain hands-on experience and insights into the technical and operational challenges of environmental management, according to a press release from SRMC.

This year’s interns come from a wide variety of academic institutions, including Clemson University, Georgia Tech, Texas A\&M, the University of Georgia and many others.

Allison Brinkley, SRMC’s intern program coordinator, highlighted the growing success of the program.

“Each year, the investment in our internship program delivers incredible results,” Brinkley said. “Seven of our interns are part of our Technical Student Program, where they remain with SRMC part-time while finishing their studies, and several others are returning for their second summer internship.”

The summer internship program is designed to provide students with more than just technical experience. It includes professional development sessions, networking opportunities with senior management, facility tours and community service projects, offering a well-rounded experience for future professionals.

SRMC, the Liquid Waste contractor at SRS, is a partnership between BWX Technologies, Inc., Amentum and Fluor. Together, the companies ccelerate the cleanup process at SRS through safe nuclear operations, mission optimization and strong corporate governance, according to a press release from SRMC.
