Dr. Jeffrey (Jeff) Griffin has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), the management and operations contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS).
Griffin will succeed Dennis Carr, who recently announced his retirement after a distinguished 44-year career in the nuclear industry, including over a decade of service at SRS.
Griffin, a vice president at Fluor Corporation, brings more than 35 years of experience in managing complex nuclear operations, including high-stakes programs and multi-million-dollar projects. Prior to joining SRNS, Griffin served as Vice President of Science & Technology for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.
He also led field operations for the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management as the Associate Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, and worked at the Savannah River National Laboratory in several leadership roles, culminating in his position as Associate Laboratory Director for Environmental Stewardship in 2009.
As president and CEO of SRNS, Griffin will oversee a range of critical activities at one of the Department of Energy’s largest production sites. These include environmental cleanup and protection, nuclear materials storage and disposition, operation of the only U.S. tritium plant, and the design and construction of the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility.
“SRS has over 75 years of experience in handling complex missions that are vital to our nation,” Griffin said. “I am honored to lead SRNS and work alongside employees who operate facilities with unique capabilities that are crucial to the safety of our nation and the world.”
Griffin holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Georgia Southern University and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
