Schools announce weather plans for Tuesday, Jan. 21

With the potential for snow on Tuesday, Jan. 21, several schools have announced alternative plans for the day.

Columbia County

Columbia County schools will release early on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:10 p.m., middle schools at 11 a.m. and high schools at 11:05 a.m.

A decision about Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be made no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Richmond County

Richmond County School System will have a learn from home day on Tuesday, Jan. 21. A decision for Wednesday will be made Tuesday afternoon. 

Aiken County

On Facebook, Aiken County School District announced that Tuesday will be an early dismissal day due to snow forecasted in the afternoon. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m., middle school at 12:10 p.m. and high school at 12:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served before dismissal.

For Aiken Scholars Academy, along with the schools in the Wagener and Ridge-Spring areas, Ridge Spring-Monetta and Busbee Elementary will dismiss at 11:55 a.m., A.L. Corbett Middle, Wagener-Salley High, and Aiken Scholars Academy dismiss at noon, and Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle and High at 12:15 and 12:20 p.m.. The Center for Innovative Learning (CIL) will dismiss at 1:30 p.m.

All the schools and offices will close early with the district offices closing no later than 2 p.m. and the operations center closing at 1 p.m.

A decision for Wednesday will be announced by Tuesday evening.

McDuffie County

MicDuffie County schools will operate on an early release schedule on Tuesday. The release times for tomorrow are:

11 a.m. – Dearing Elementary and Sand Hills

11:15 a.m. – Special education buses at all schools

11:20 a.m. – Thomson-McDuffie Middle

11:25 a.m. – Thomson High

11:30 a.m. – McDuffie Achievement Center, Maxwell Elementary, Thomson Elementary, Norris Elementary

A decision for Wednesday will be announced on Tuesday.

Edgefield County

Edgefield County School District announced Tuesday morning that due to a change in the forecast, schools would have an early dismissal on Tuesday.

Augusta University

For Augusta University, in-person classes will be remote on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Augusta Tech

All Augusta Tech locations will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and the students will have a virtual/remote learning day. A decision for Wednesday will be announced Tuesday.

USC Aiken

USC Aiken will have normal business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and classes and workplace operations will continue as normal. Any in-person activities scheduled for after 5 p.m. have been postponed.

Paine College

Classes at Paine College have been cancelled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.
