With the school year just about to start, several school supply collections and distributions are in the works.

The United Way of the CSRA is collecting items for its annual Stuff the Bus campaign beginning this weekend.

“Our goal is to maximize student learning this year and every year, and we’re proud to step in once again to help families in need,” said Brittany Burnett, President and CEO of United Way of the CSRA, in a news release.

One drive will be held this weekend at SRP Park when the Augusta GreenJackets play the Fredericksburg Nationals on Sunday, July 17.

Fans who bring school supplies to the game will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and be entered to win a game-worn jersey given away at the game.

Another is at the Kroc Center on Friday, July 22. Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon. Donations from these events will benefit students in Richmond, Columbia and surrounding counties. A final event is scheduled for the Walmart in Waynesboro on Saturday, July 23. Donations from this event will go to Burke County students. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A school supply distribution and haircut event is scheduled for July 31.

The Hawk Law Group and Alison South Marketing Group present the third annual Fit 4 School event in Augusta, providing free school supplies and haircuts to local students, according to a news release.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (while supplies last) Saturday, July 31, at James Brown Arena, 601 Seventh St., Augusta.

School supplies will be handed out in a fast, easy drive-thru. Superheroes and fairy tale characters will be on hand, and goodie bags filled with snacks will be handed out.

Free haircuts from the Aiken School of Cosmetology and Barbering will be provided inside the arena.

“Many families in Augusta need help when it’s time to go back to school,” said attorney Reid Sanders, a partner in the Hawk Law Group, in the news release. “We are happy to be able to be a sponsor of such a worthwhile cause and to ease the burden for some local students.
