Scoops improperly stored in food discovered at one restaurant in this week’s health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and while no businesses received a failing score from April 1-5, two businesses did receive a score in the 70s. 

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, 3609 Walton Way Extension, Augusta received the lowest score of 75. Inspector’s comments included: “observed scoops improperly stored in flour, pasta, and cheese” and “observed liquid eggs, whipped cream, and carrots passed date markings in the walk-in cooler.” 

Other comments included: “observed multiple food items not covered in the server alley area,” “observed buildup on the drink machines in the server alley area,” “observed cheese 53F, cheese 48F, and lettuce 43F cold held above 41F,” “observed an employee wearing a wristwatch while actively cooking,” “observed clean dishes wet stacked on the drying rack in kitchen,” and “observed buildup on several pieces of equipment throughout the kitchen.”

The second lowest score was Circle K/Blimpie #5378, 602 Scott Nixon Memorial Drive, Augusta, and they received a 79. Inspector’s comments included: “observed no employee health reporting agreements,” “observed ham 45F, cheese 47F, and lettuce 42F cold held above 41F,” “observed peppers and onions past date markings stored in the reach-in cooler,” “observed no test strips for the sanitizer being used,” “observed the dumpster doors left open,” and “observed wet mop sitting in mop buckets.” 

Marks Church Commons pool, 1700 Bowdoin Drive, Augusta received the third lowest score of 83. Inspector’s comments included: “observed emergency phone not functioning” and “pool risks and ‘risk of drowning, supervise children closely’ signs missing.”

Inspector’s comments: “observed a bucket handwashed with warm water only,” “observed foods in WIC not dated: cooked shrimp, chicken, egg rolls, etc.,” “observed raw shrimp thawing in 3-compartment sink under no water,” and “observed prep top cooler with containers of sauce on top of raw and RTE foods.” 

Inspections by the Georgia Public Health Department are used to make sure residents and visitors are safe. These were the health inspections performed between April 1 and April 5.
