Scott, Williams, Matson qualify in Augusta elections

Two challengers for Augusta Commission seats and a third contender for Augusta Circuit Superior Court judge qualified Wednesday in the May 21 nonpartisan and primary contests.

Former commissioner Marion Williams, who has previously served two sets of two consecutive terms on the Augusta Commission, qualified Wednesday to run for Super District 9.

Super District 9 incumbent Francine Scott also qualified Wednesday to run for a second term.

The super district spans Augusta commission regular districts 1, 2, 4 and 5.

Don Clark, who is listed as Donald “DC” Clark on qualifying paperwork, has qualified to run for District 5 on the Augusta Commission. The retired Army communications chief is challenging District 5 incumbent Bobby Williams.

Matt Matson joined attorney Charles Lyons and Chief Juvenile Court Judge Willie Saunders in running for the judgeship held by Chief Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Craig, who is retiring.

Karlton Howard, the brother of the late state Rep. Wayne Howard, qualified to run for another term in District 129.
