A second man has died from injuries suffered in a March 17 crash on Deans Bridge Road that took the life of an elderly driver.

Clifford Charles Johnston, 67, of Blythe, was a passenger in a car driven by 80-year-old Edwin Potter, who died the day of the crash. Johnston was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m. Sunday at Wellstar MCG Health, where he has been receiving care ever since the accident.

According to Coroner Mark Bowen, the crash occurred around 2:51 p.m. in the 4300 block of Deans Bridge Road, which is located in Blythe. Sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry said Potter’s pickup truck was traveling southbound on Deans Bridge Road, attempting to turn left into the landfill entrance. At the same time, an SUV was traveling northbound.

Preliminary investigation suggests the pickup truck turned into the path of the SUV, causing a collision. The pickup truck was occupied by the driver, Potter, and a passenger, Johnston. The SUV was occupied by its driver, who survived.

Potter was transported by EMS to Wellstar MCG, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m. March 17.
