Six Richmond County schools have recently announced an increase in their combined SAT scores in 2024.

Lucy C. Laney Comprehensive High School saw a significant score increase of 42 points, according to data released by the College Board and the Georgia Department of Education.

In addition, Richmond County reported that Laney, A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School, the Academy of Richmond County (ARC), Cross Creek Comprehensive High School, T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School and Westside Comprehensive High School increased their combined SAT scores by an average of 15 points.

“We were proud to see that we not only had schools beat state averages for SAT scores this year, but also national averages,” Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Bradshaw said. “Every gain in our combined scores and subject areas results from a team of teachers, counselors and administrators working hard to challenge our students with rigorous academics.”

A.R. Johnson has also been recognized for achieving the highest increase in SAT test takers during the 2023-24 school year, according to a press release from the Richmond County School System.

“The SAT is especially important for our students who aspire to attend college now that universities across the country are reinstating pre-COVID requirements for college entrance exams, and we will continue to work with our students to ensure that each of them has a pathway to higher educator or the workforce after graduation,” Bradshaw said.

Other highlights from the 2024 SAT results included:

  • A.R. Johnson and Davidson magnet schools surpassed both state and national averages with their combined SAT score and in their Math scores.
  • A.R. Johnson, Davidson, and Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School (RCTCM) beat state and national averages in their SAT Reading scores.
  • A.R. Johnson Magnet and ARC, Cross Creek, T.W. Josey, Laney, and Westside high schools improved on the Evidenced Based Reading portion of the SAT.
  • ARC, Cross Creek, Laney, and Westside improved on the Math portion of the SAT.
