On June 1, three Sandersville men were involved in a severe accident, which resulted in the driver remaining in critical condition and needing community support.

Driving late on a Saturday night, approximately 11:30 p.m., Lamarcus Fleming, Rashad Jones and Justin Sims were thrown from a Dodge Ram pickup truck, after crashing into a tree on a curved road.

Traveling south on Hospital Road, according to an article from the Union-Recorder, the truck split in half after making impact with the tree, which led to all three men being flown by Air Evac helicopters to nearby hospitals.

While Jones and Sims were admitted to a medical center in Macon, Fleming, the driver, sustained the most traumatic injuries with intense burns, and was transported to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Augusta’s Doctors Hospital.

In response to Fleming’s expensive and ongoing treatments, Moneca Carswell created a GoFundMe campaign on June 19 and is asking locals to support the family in their time of need.

“My nephew Lamarcus Fleming and two friends were in a terrible accident,” Carswell stated. “[Fleming] sustained burns on 80% of his body … is on the vent and has a feeding tube.”

With a goal of raising $3,000, Carswell said donations will go towards helping Fleming’s mother Debra Womble and twin brother Jamarcus cover hospital costs.

“They are not able to work at this time,” Carswell said. “They are traveling back and forth from Sandersville to Augusta daily. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.”

So far, 41 donors have raised $1,125.

“I would like to thank everyone for the donations and prayers for my son,” Womble posted on Facebook. “We highly appreciate everything. Keep us in your prayers.”
