She returned a diaper bag she found – minus $40 cash

Date: October 07, 2023

Columbia County authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who returned a diaper bag left behind at the Martinez Walmart.

That’s because $40 cash was missing when she brought it back.

Last Saturday afternoon, the victim left her diaper bag in a shopping cart. Her boyfriend pushed the cart back to the cart return without realizing the diaper bag was still inside. When they went to customer service, an employee said a woman in a blue T-shirt and black shoes returned the bag to an employee at the front of the store.

The victim noticed the diaper bag had been rummaged through and $40 cash was taken from her wallet.

“Walmart Loss Prevention looked through CCTV footage and observed the unknown black female retrieve the diaper bag from the shopping cart return in the parking lot of Walmart and rummage through the bag,” a sheriff’s report says. “The unknown female then returns the bag to the Walmart employee at the front of the store.”

Columbia County authorities want to talk to the woman shown in the footage. If you recognize her, please call the sheriff’s office at 706-541-2800.
