Shemp & Petey’s Bistro in Evans has recently closed for business. The sandwich shop’s Facebook page announced on Aug. 28 that the business was ending, thanking followers for their support.
Kenny Barnes, the owner of Shemp & Petey’s, remains undeterred.
“I am focusing on repaying all debts and rebuilding,” said Barnes. “The whole process was fun, and this bump in the road has slowed me down but has not stopped me.”
Shemp & Petey’s Bistro opened in June and specialized in homemade entrees such as London broiled beef, tuna melts and turkey club sandwiches. The use of hummus instead of mayonnaise, no deep-fried dishes and no pork dishes were some distinguishing features of the Evans’ eatery.

“My family and I have learned a lot in the short time we were open,” said Barnes. “We plan to put that knowledge to use.”
Barnes believes in staying positive, avoiding naysayers, or “dream-killers,” and pushing forward. Such being the case he is already making plans toward his next entrepreneurial endeavor.
As recently as September Barnes was asking followers on his Facebook page what they would like in a restaurant besides good food and good service
“It will take a while but we plan on opening a restaurant,” he said. “We had fun operating one.”
