A shooter fired a gun at a car outside an Augusta apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, killing the passenger and injuring the driver, authorities said.

The men’s names have not been released in the shootings, which happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday outside The Estates at Perimeter on St. Andrews Drive.

“The vehicle in which the victim was a passenger in at the time of the shooting sped off on Perimeter Parkway and crashed into some trees at the intersection of Interstate Parkway,” Coroner Mark Bowen said. “The driver was taken to hospital and the passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead.”

The sheriff’s office has not released any suspect information or possible motive. They said “an unidentified subject” opened fire on the vehicle, striking both victims.

“The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.
