A shooting in Augusta on Wednesday evening resulted in the death of one male victim and left another man hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired in the 2300 block of Helsinki Drive at approximately 6:23 p.m., according to a press release.

Upon arrival, deputies found one male victim who had been shot at least once. He was transported to Wellstar-MGC Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:07 p.m. by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office. His name has not been released, pending notification of family.
