Slendak, Yancy, Saunders qualify in Richmond County contests

Several declared Augusta candidates made good on their promises to run and qualified Tuesday.

Tina Slendak, the lifelong resident of District 7, qualified to run for the District 7 commission seat. She’ll face physician Marshall Bedder, who qualified Monday.

Carol Yancy, the educator in business as a trichologist, qualified Tuesday. She joins fellow Flagler Road resident, dentist Joidaz Gaines, in challenging incumbent Catherine Smith McKnight, who qualified Monday.

Chief Juvenile Court Judge Willie Saunders qualified to run for the judgeship given up by Chief Judge Daniel J. Craig, who is retiring. Augusta lawyer and former candidate Charles Lyons qualified Monday.
