South Aiken Baptist Christian School will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 23, with a day of activities, performances, and reflection on the school’s growth.
Pastor Trevor Lightbody said the milestone represents the transformation of a small church school into a thriving community.
“The church and school started small, and the church has stayed relatively small. The Lord has really blessed us, though, and the school has grown into something that includes predominantly non-church families,” he said. “It’s very exciting to see how we have been blessed with this growth and to anticipate how we will be blessed in the next 50 years.”
The celebration begins at 10 a.m., with a General Assembly at 10:15 a.m. featuring a message from the pastor who founded the school in 1975.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a history walk, scavenger hunt with prizes, campus tours, inflatables for children, food vendors, and musical performances from the school band, praise band, and solo vocalists.
“This is an opportunity for people who have history with the church and school to praise the Lord and give thanks to him for what he’s done to bless the school,” Lightbody said. “This also gives the community a chance to learn what we’re all about and see if they’d be interested in partnering with us or having their kids attend.”
Events will be held at South Aiken Baptist Church, located at 980 Dougherty Road. Guests are asked to use the Hamilton Drive entrance, and activities will take place in the gymnasium.
The anniversary celebration is free and open to the public.
