South Augusta shooting kills two, injures one

A domestic dispute is believed to be at the heart of a shooting that left two dead and one injured late Friday afternoon.

At 5:40 p.m., Jan. 14, Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Hammond Avenue, off U.S. Highway 25 in south Augusta, according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department.

When they arrived, they found two victims dead of gunshot wounds and a third who was injured and transported to the Augusta University Medical Center. No additional information is available on the third person’s condition.

In an email, Coroner Mark Bowen said both of the deceased were shot at least once.

Deputies have no information on a suspect.

Investigators as well as crime scene technicians are on the scene, the release said.
