South Georgia Bank cut the ribbon on its latest branch, this week, in Augusta’s Summerville area.
Staff joined leadership from the bank chain’s headquarters in Glennville, Ga. in ushering in the fifth and latest branch, Tuesday morning. South Georgia Bank, whose locations are mostly concentrated further south in Tattnall, Liberty and Evans counties, has had Augusta on its radar for several years, says president Branford Thompson.
“One of the things you look for when opening a new branch office is either space where you can build a new office, or an existing building that maybe was a bank at one point,” said Thompson. In this case, the chosen site, purchased by South Georgia Bank last year, formerly housed Regions Bank. “I think one of our key tenets is community involvement, and we’re excited to build new relationships in the community and really contribute to the Augusta community in significant ways.”
Both Branford Thompson and South Georgia Bank CEO Bran Thompson, underscored the institution’s reputation as a “small community bank.”
“I hope that gives us the opportunity to do something that I think is lacking when we look around the national institution sector today,” the elder Thompson said before the ribbon was cut. “And that is to be a true community.”
Augusta’s South Georgia Bank branch, now open, is located at 2839 Central Ave.
