A new bank is headed to Augusta’s Summerville area.

Augusta is slated to be the home of an upcoming fifth branch of South Georgia Bank, as indicated by both local records and new signage at its upcoming location. While as of the writing of this article, South Georgia Bank has not returned calls to confirm the opening date of its new location in the Garden City, records show that in September of 2024, the bank purchased 2839 Central Ave.

South Georgia Bank is headquartered in Glennville, Ga., founded there in 1987, focusing on home mortgages and consumer lending, according to its website. Since then it has grown to four branches total in the state: Claxton, Reidsville further west, Hinesville south of Fort Stewart, and its home base Glennville.

The less than one acre parcel on Central Avenue, currently next door to a Dairy Queen, is the site of a 4,950-square foot building that once housed Summerville Pharmacy and a Regions Bank branch.
