Continuing its commitment to education and community partnerships, Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) has donated $10,000 to Paine College, a historically Black college located in Augusta, Georgia.

The donation will support scholarships for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines, helping to reduce financial barriers for talented students and foster a new generation of innovators, according to a press release from SRMC.

SRMC President and Program Manager Dr. Dave Olson emphasized the importance of investing in STEM education to drive progress both locally and beyond.

“We believe that education is a cornerstone of progress, and investing in STEM initiatives is essential for the future,” Olson said. “This partnership with Paine College will not only empower the next generation of leaders and innovators but also contribute to the advancement of technology and science in our community.”

Paine College President Dr. Lester McCorn welcomed the donation, stating it will provide critical financial support to students who are often balancing academic goals with financial challenges.

“This commitment from Savannah River Mission Completion to support STEM education at Paine will significantly impact our students and will help to cultivate a skilled workforce ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow,” McCorn said.

As the liquid waste contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site, SRMC is an organization focused on accelerating environmental cleanup through safe and efficient nuclear operations, according to a press release from SRMC.

Paine College, founded in Augusta and affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, is a private liberal arts institution accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS).
