Savannah River Mission Completion has donated $5,000 to Augusta Technical College to support scholarships for students in the school’s Adult Education Program.
The contribution will help students preparing to take the General Educational Development test, a computer-based high school equivalency exam.
Augusta Tech offers both in-person and online testing options for individuals seeking a GED diploma, according to a press release from Savannah River Mission Completion.
SRMC President and Program Manager Dr. Thomas Burns Jr. said the company sees the program as an important pipeline for strengthening the regional workforce.
“The program at Augusta Technical College equips individuals with the necessary skills for potential employment opportunities at SRMC and other regional businesses,” Burns said. “Obtaining a GED opens up a wealth of job prospects for graduates who might otherwise struggle to find qualified positions. Our goal is to create opportunities for students to succeed.”
Augusta Tech Interim President Dr. Melissa Frank-Alston said the support will help students advance toward their educational and career goals.
“We are incredibly grateful to SRMC for its generous donation to our GED program,” Frank-Alston said. “Their support not only enhances our adult education initiatives but also empowers our students to achieve their educational goals, transforming their lives and our community.”
SRMC is the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site and includes parent company BWX Technologies, Inc., with partners Amentum and Fluor.
Augusta Technical College is part of the Technical College System of Georgia and provides academic programs, workforce training and adult education across Burke, Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie and Richmond counties.
