Savannah River Mission Completion has donated $5,000 to the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) to help military veterans transition into college life and the civilian workforce.
The funding will support the university’s Office of Veteran and Military Student Success by organizing networking opportunities, career-guidance sessions and promotional efforts to raise awareness of the center’s mission.
SRMC Talent Acquisition Projects and Programs Lead Allison Brinkley said the contribution can help student veterans connect with opportunities at the Savannah River Site.
“I look forward to many of them applying for our summer internship program,” Brinkley said. “Our internships give students an opportunity to see what SRMC does and how they might fit in.”
USCA’s Executive Director of Military Affairs and External Programs Robert Murphy, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, said the university values partnerships that expand resources for its veteran and military students.
“Partnerships such as the one with SRMC have played a vital role in broadening educational and career opportunities for our veterans,” Murphy said. “SRMC has been a strong supporter of this program since its inception, and their ongoing investment reflects a true commitment to the success of our veteran students.”
Savannah River Mission Completion is the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site. The company includes parent organization BWX Technologies, Inc., with partners Amentum and Fluor, and supports cleanup operations at the U.S. Department of Energy site.
The University of South Carolina Aiken enrolls about 4,000 students and offers more than 70 academic concentrations. The university is regularly recognized as a Best for Vets institution and is ranked as the No. 7 Military Spouse Friendly university in the country.
