Gabby Thomas has been learning and exploring entrepreneurship through her internship with Savannah River Mission Completion.

Thomas moved to Aiken, S.C. from Wiesbaden, Germany with her parents, retired Army veterans. She is a sophomore business major with a minor in international relations at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA).

Thomas has said that she always thought of being an entrepreneur. At the age of 12, she sold loom creations, and in high school, she ran her own cosmetics business.

“It made me feel good to know that I could physically make something that can contribute to someone’s happiness,” said Thomas.

That feeling led Thomas to want to learn more about entrepreneurship, so when she started her business, she followed what great role models, like her father, had taught her.

“My dad owned a restaurant back when we lived in Texas, so I shadowed him as much as I could, and he taught me a lot when it came to being an entrepreneur,” said Thomas.

She has applied these business skills in her internship with SRMC’s Procurement Compliance and Systems group. Thomas helps support the procurement system administration through contributing to the implementation of new systems, which includes revisions to existing procedures and training that is required resulting from system updates.

“Coming to work every day has been so enjoyable,” said Thomas. “I will use what I’ve learned about the supply chain system and logistical aspects of owning a business and eventually apply it to my own business one day.”
