Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) has recently donated $20,000 to the Friends of the Nancy Carson Library’s campaign to help with their renovations of the library.

The Nancy Carson Library, located in North Augusta, was built in 1990 and hasn’t had any major renovations since then.

Renovations will include a complete relocation and redecoration of the Youth Services area, new small group study and program rooms, a fully accessible ADA compliant family restroom, and new finishes and furnishing throughout the library. This will allow a modern and flexible library space for both traditional and contemporary library services and programs.

The library closed off its main lobby to service in December 2023, and it used the community meeting room for normal operations with a small number of materials and public computers. The main lobby should re-open later this spring so that updates can begin on the community meeting room. This room, named after SRNS, should re-open in late summer.

“We are very grateful for this very generous gift from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and the vote of confidence it provides to the community about the importance of the Nancy Carson Library to our population,” says Gene Helmich, president of the Friends of the Nancy Carson Library Foundation. “Their strong support sends a message that now is the time to ensure our community has a safe and beautiful place to read, gather, learn, and grow.”

SRNS annually donates to the Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield (ABBE) Regional Library System to help support reading programs for children in the ABBE counties.
