Recently, interns started their paid summer internship program at the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS). The interns work in several different fields at SRNS, including engineering, computer science, physical sciences, business services, communications, information technology, nuclear materials control and accountability among other fields.
“The caliber of talent and passion already displayed by this internship cohort is truly inspiring,” said Kedesha McClary, SRNS internship coordinator. “We are proud to announce this year’s participation from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) has increased significantly, indicating a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and valuable learning experiences for SRNS interns.”
The program began with an “Executive Meet and Greet,” pairing the interns with SRNS executives and industry leaders. Keynote speakers explained SRNS missions, internship expectations, and successful skills for working at the Site.
“Our interns hail from 12 different states and 57 colleges and technical schools,” said McClary. “Each year, we aim to provide them with a meaningful and productive learning experience.”
One intern, Hunter Holden, has returned to the Site for a second summer with an internship in chemical engineering. Holden is a student from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
“I returned this summer to gain and retain valuable contacts in the industry and to advance my career in a competitive job market,” said Holden. “In my short time at SRS, I have learned many lessons from veterans in the field of chemical engineering with importance placed on safety.”
SRNS offered full-time job offers to 55 interns in the 2023 fiscal year.
“Our interns are talented, motivated, innovative, and committed to SRNS missions,” said Dennis Carr, SRNS president and CEO. “Our local pipelines continue to pay off as we create a solid foundation that will carry SRNS forward for years to come.”
