In celebration of Fleet Feet’s nationwide holiday, Global Running Day, the Augusta GreenJackets and Augusta/North Augusta Fleet Feet are inviting the community to participate in a 5K run on Wednesday, June 5.

To appreciate an activity and sport many love, Fleet Feet, a neighborhood retail leader in building and supporting the CSRA running community, annually hosts “The Big Run” to give anyone an opportunity to participate in a local run.

Starting at 6 p.m., at North Augusta’s 187 Railroad Ave., the run’s proceeds will benefit the North Augusta Miracle League Field campaign also known as the RECing Crew.

“We’re inviting all runners and walkers to join us on June 5 to mark the occasion, set a goal and cross the finish line,” stated a press release from the GreenJackets. “Join us at SRP Park for this annual tradition.”

Registration for the event will run $45 per participant, while registration for the kids one-mile fun run will cost $15.

Participation in the 5K run will receive a finisher’s medal, a collector’s T-shirt and one free general admission ticket to the GreenJackets baseball game with a beverage.

Kids, ages 3-13, can explore an out-and-back route on the race course to complete the one-mile fun run, prior to receiving a shirt, medal and an extra unknown surprise.

“Whether you are a runner or walker we invite you to take part in this annual community event that starts and ends at SRP Park,” said GreenJackets’ Vice President Tom Denlinger.

Following the race, awards will be handed out at 6:45 p.m. in front of the park. Awards include 5K first, second and third place overall for male and female winners, and first, second and third place for specific age groups.

“Celebrate what makes running fun – high-fives, endorphins and good friends,” said Fleet Feet Augusta’s General Manager Seren Jacobs. “Come hang with Fleet Feet and the Augusta GreenJackets on Global Running Day and make The Big Run an epic party.”

Partnering with North Augusta Public Safety to control traffic, those located in Riverside Village should expect road closures and delays on Center Street from 5 to 7 p.m. the day of the 5K.

Visitors who turn on Center Street will be directed to turn on Buff Avenue, and advised to seek alternative routes via Riverside Boulevard or Crystal Lake Drive to access Riverside Village.

“We love partnering with our friends at Fleet Feet Augusta, a true community partner, and look forward to seeing this event grow in 2024,” Denlinger said.
