SRS celebrates another AHA heart walk campaign

Employees from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), Battelle Savannah River Alliance (BSRA), and Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) participated in the American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk Campaign awards ceremony on May 16.

The awards ceremony celebrated individuals and organizations that donated to this year’s Heart Walk Campaign. A total of $196,275 was raised this year.

“The Heart Walk is about promoting the health and well-being of our community and supporting a lifesaving mission,” said Shannon Powers, SRNS American Heart Walk Campaign chair. “Thank you to our incredible volunteers and walkers who helped make this year’s Heart Walk so successful.”

SRNS was recognized during the ceremony for raising $136, 986 for this year’s campaign. SRNS’s top organization was Environmental Management, which raised over $33,000, and SRNS’s top team was Environmental Management Operation’s “Heart & Sole,” who rose over $26,000.

Savannah River Nuclear Liquid (SRNL) raised $24,636, and SRMC raised over $34,000.

The SRS Top Walker award was given to Janice Lawson, SRNS senior vice president of environmental operations and American Heart Walk executive management sponsor. Lawson rose over $8,000. The MVP award was given to J.C. Epting, SRNS senior vice president of NNSA operations and programs. Epting helped raise over $8,000.

“Since its inception in 1924, the American Heart Association has evolved from a small group of physicians focused on combating heart disease into a leading public health organization driving groundbreaking research and advocacy,” said Marah Curry, AHA of the CSRA director. “Over the past century, the Association, alongside our dedicated volunteers, supporters, and collaborating organizations, has strived to foster longer, healthier lives. As we celebrate this milestone year, we take immense pride in the success and impact of the 2024 CSRA Heart Walk, made possible by the unwavering commitment of our volunteers and supporters, such as SRS, who have contributed to this year’s achievements.”

SRS volunteers participated in the CSRA Heart Walk with other participants at SRP Park on March 22. Participants continued to walk through the rainy weather.

“I was truly amazed by the overwhelming support and turnout we witnessed at this year’s Heart Walk despite the rain,” said Powers. “It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to raise awareness for such an important cause.”

SRS continues to be the leading contributor the CSRA Heart Walk in the hopes of bringing awareness to cardiovascular health.
