Vivienne K., a student from Stallings Island Middle School in the Columbia County School District (CCSD), clinched third place at the 2025 Georgia State Finals of the National Civics Bee on June 27.
The event, which took at the Carter Center in Atlanta, was hosted by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and its Foundation, and aimed to inspire civic engagement and leadership, according to a press release from CCSD.
The competition involved three rounds: two multiple-choice rounds followed by a judged Q\&A session based on students’ civics essays.

Vivienne’s journey to the finals began when she won the Greater Augusta Region competition with a top essay, earning her one of the 19 regional spots, 14 of whom were also from the CCSD.
Her victory at the inaugural National Civics Bee regional event on April 24, at Grovetown High School then secured her place in the state finals.
Competing alongside 21 other finalists from across Georgia, Vivienne demonstrated her extensive knowledge of civics and community involvement, earning a place among the top three in the state.
“Her performance placed her among the top three finalists, showcasing her deep understanding of civics and her commitment to making a difference,” according to a press release from CCSD. “Her success highlights the strength of civic education in our schools and the promising future of youth leadership in Georgia.”

The National Civics Bee, spearheaded by The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, seeks to inspire young Americans to become informed and active citizens. This year marked the inaugural hosting of the Georgia State Finals, sponsored by Kinder Morgan.
