Aircraft maintenance provider StandardAero hosted a groundbreaking for its upcoming maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, Tuesday morning, at the Augusta Regional Airport (AGS).
Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., StandardAero has had offices in Augusta since 1974, and serves more than 400 aircraft and 500 turbine aircraft engines each year.

Now the company is gearing up to grow its operations at AGS with a $33 million expansion of its Business Aviation facility at the airport.
“As a leader in both logistics and the aerospace industry, Georgia is proud to congratulate StandardAero on this expansion,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “Our state was ranked as a top five exporter of aerospace products in the U.S. in 2023, and looks forward to working with StandardAero and the rest of Georgia’s aerospace industry to maintain that success.”
The project is the construction of an 80,500 square foot hangar and engine shop on the AGS campus, making space to support more super mid-size and large cabin aircraft, and allowing greater capacity to do shopwork on airframe and aircraft electronic systems, explained StandardAero Vice President and General Manager Chris Bodine.
“The current facility was built in the 1970s, when aircraft were a lot smaller,” Bodine said. “The expansion will include hangar service work, an additional engine shop, back-shops, offices and increased parking.”
The Augusta Economic Development Authority (AEDA) partnered with AGS to secure funding to build the new site, which entails Georgia applying job tax credits for incremental employees over a period of 10 years.
Jordan Trotter Commercial Real Estate, RW Allen Construction, architectural firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood and engineering firm Colliers are also partners in the new development.
“As a small business owner and supporter of local business, I am proud that construction of the … facility will be conducted by local firms,” said Mayor Garnett Johnson. “This expansion will lead to increased economic impact, job creation, and career pathways for our youth.”
The expansion is expected to be complete in 2025.
