Statesboro shuts out Greenbrier 35-0

Statesboro High School shutout Greenbrier 35-0 on the Wolfpack’s homecoming night on Friday, Oct.7.

Fans packed out the stadium and hoped to see the Wolfpack get its first win of the season.

Top Greenbrier wide receiver Malik Leverett, who is committed to East Carolina University, returned on Friday after getting injured in the second game of the season against Grovetown.

The game began on Statesboro first offensive drive with a 57-yard touchdown run by running back Jordan Lovett, putting the Blue Devils ahead 7-0.

Greenbrier struggled snapping the ball all night and it began early as they fumbled the snap on the second play of the game and the Blue Devils recovered in scoring position.

The Blue Devils took advantage of the turnover and would get ahead 14-0 with 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kamron Mikell.

Greenbrier forced two interceptions on defense, but the offense failed to take advantage, struggling to move the ball all game.

The Wolfpack defense continued to give up big runs all night as Blue Devils quarterback Mikell rushed for a 78-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Mikell also rushed for another long 44-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Despite the lopsided game on the field, the Wolfpack players and fans still ended the night singing along with crowd and enjoyed their homecoming.

Greenbrier (0-6) will look to get their first win of the season against Jenkins High School (1-4) on the road in Savannah Oct. 14.

Statesboro (2-4) will play on the road against the Coffee Trojans (4-1) Oct. 14.
