At approximately 3:16 p.m., the Columbia County School District notified parents of a sudden position change for the current principal of Stevens Creek Elementary School.

Grace Meyer, who has served as the elementary school’s principal since 2019, is suddenly stepping down effective Friday, Oct. 6.

“As the principal, she always made it a priority to do what was in the best interest of her students, faculty and the community she served since 2019,” stated an official press release from the school district.

According to the press release, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 10, Meyer will serve in a different role for the Columbia County School District that has yet to be announced.

“Although new leadership in a school may cause some level of apprehension, we are very confident in our time-tested and proven process of seamlessly integrating new leaders into our schools, and at the same time ensuring student well-being and achievement remains a priority,” the release also stated.

A former principal, Dr. Chales Barry O’Neill, will be serving as interim principal along with Megan Wuchte, the elementary’s current assistant principal, to help lead the school through the transition period until a permanent replacement can be named.

“Thank you for your continued support as we work together to provide the very best education possible for each and every student,” the release concluded.

Students are expected to be welcomed back into schools at the conclusion of the Fall Break on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
