At least three people have applied to be the district attorney for the new Columbia County Judicial Circuit, but Gov. Brian Kemp has not yet taken any action to fill the position.

Kemp, who last month signed the bill that created the new circuit, will appoint the new district attorney. He was accepting nominations and applications until April 14, 2021.

“Columbia Judicial Circuit District Attorney interviews have not yet been scheduled,” Kemp’s press secretary said Wednesday.

Earlier this month, a spokesman for Kemp said the Governor’s Office has received the names of three people interested in the job. The names have not been released.

However, two applicants have confirmed their interest in the position.

Bobby Christine, the former U.S. attorney for the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, confirmed he is interested in the position. Christine said he has not been contacted to set up an interview, but he did tell the governor he is available.

Another candidate is former Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Natalie Paine. She has told the Governor’s Office that she wants to be considered. She also said she has not yet been contacted to set up an interview.
