It had been a while since I’d gone to Stillwater Taproom, and I had missed it.
The bar at 974 Broad St. hearkens back to another era. Mellow bluegrass and Americana music meets your ears as soon as you cross the threshold into this watering hole. The back bar is a beauty, with pendant lamps hanging in front of the mirrors that line the wall. The subdued lighting shimmers on the tin ceiling tiles. Vintage instruments and artwork on the walls give the place cozy warmth. It’s a comfortable spot to go for a cold drink on a hot night.

The laid-back atmosphere at Stillwater is coupled with friendly bartenders who are eager to serve you with a smile. Not only is the bar staff amiable, but the regulars are as well. Don’t be surprised if you wind up making a new friend.
Stillwater is as legendary for its beer selection as the bands booked there. The beer menu is artistically rendered on a large chalkboard hanging on the exposed brick wall opposite the bar. Fans of IPAs and unique craft beers will rejoice at Stillwater’s wide variety of Georgia-brewed offerings. If beer isn’t your thing, the bar offers a vast selection of liquors as well.

Seating is set up to allow for social distancing, so if you would rather not join the crowd at the bar, pick one of the few tables near the bar or check out the additional seating in the back. If you enjoy balcony seating, go upstairs where you can grab a table for a bird’s-eye view of the stage.

And speaking of the stage, Ruskin and Cam of the band King Size took to Stillwater’s “Little Stage That Could” on April 30 for an evening of great music. Ruskin on acoustic guitar and Cam on bass put a unique spin on the songs they played, taking well-known classics and making them their own. Some of the songs on their set list included tunes ranging from Stone Temple Pilots to the Beatles and Green Day to Billy Joel. With its wide repertoire, King Size has something for most everyone’s musical taste.
