Structure fire at McKinney Tire in Aiken sends one to hospital

A significant structure fire broke out at Wednesday afternoon at McKinney Tire on York Street, injuring one person.

At approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday, first responders arrived to find heavy black smoke billowing from the roof and engulfing the rest of the building. Firefighters quickly initiated efforts to combat the blaze, and they remained on the scene working to extinguish the fire.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to the incident and transported one individual to a local hospital, with witnesses saying it was an employee. The condition of the transported person is currently unknown.

As the situation develops, authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Residents reacted in shock at the news. Bill Lavarnway commended the tire service, highlighting their exceptional customer service and fair pricing. He mentioned his recent visit to get tires.

“Our company used them many times…best tire service in Aiken,” Lavarnway said. “I was there today about an hour before the fire to get tires. They are great people with the best customer service and fairly priced too! Praying for the family and speedy rebuild!”

Bridget Rich Willing said she spoke with a family member of the business and learned the injured person will be OK. “The McKinneys would literally give the shirt off of their back to help anyone and everyone,” she said on Facebook.
