Although the sun is beating down with full force, anticipation for the upcoming school year is already on the rise. A local organization is preparing for an annual event that ensures students from families in need are well-equipped to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

United Way of the CSRA is set to host three important donation collection events for Stuff the Bus, an initiative that collects and distributes school supplies to disadvantaged families. These collection events will be held at locations in North Augusta, Augusta and Waynesboro.

School supplies collected will be distributed to Richmond County, Columbia County and Burke County public schools.

Giving students solid first steps

“We know that many of our hardworking families in our community literally can’t afford some of these basics like school supplies, and we want to ensure that our children start school that very first day prepared and ready to learn,” said Brittany Burnett, CEO and president of United Way of the CSRA.

The first collection event will take place on July 13 at the Augusta Greenjackets game at SRP Park at 5:05 p.m. The second event will take place on July 18 at The Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St., from 8 a.m. – noon. A final collection event will take place on July 19 at the 1500 N. Liberty St. Walmart in Waynesboro from 9 a.m. – noon.
